שף ויתיבNew Seforim by Rabbi Shay Tahan

Knowing the Halacha Is Part of Carrying
In recent years, our community has seen a tremendous influx of first-time firearm owners - Yidden who have taken the responsible step of learning to protect their families, their shuls, and their neighbors. Yet the license and the hardware are only the beginning. The halachos that govern carrying a weapon are a world of their own, and most of us were never taught them.
May one carry on Shabbos, and in what manner? What is the Torah's view of self-defense, and where are its boundaries? Which halachos apply to the sights, lights, and optics mounted on a modern weapon? What conduct is proper in and around the Shul? For those of us who carry, these are not abstract questions - they come up every single week.
That is why I am so pleased to share that Rabbi Shay Tahan is preparing two new seforim for print - Shaf Veyativ: The Laws of Carrying Weapons, one volume in English and one in Hebrew. Rabbi Tahan is the posek behind AskHalacha.com, where he fields halachic questions from across the community, and many of you know his article "Should a Yid Apply for a Gun Permit?" right here on 2A613. A talmid of the Mirrer Yeshiva, he leads the Shaarei Ezra Kollel at the Bnei Yosef Shul in Brooklyn, and his more than 2,500 recorded shiurim on TorahAnytime are followed around the world.
These seforim are the product of many hours of research and the collaboration of many individuals - and, in a very real sense, of this community itself. So many of the shailos they answer began as your questions and inquiries here on 2A613. They offer something our community has been missing: the Halacha and Hashkofa of carrying a weapon, laid out clearly and practically. To carry armed with knowledge, rather than in the dark - that is what these seforim make possible. I invite you to leaf through the sample pages below, and to take part in bringing them to print through the sponsorship opportunities on this page.
